Friday Fireworks Return to Light Up Bournemouth Seafront

Bournemouth's best free night out is back. The summer Friday Fireworks series has returned to the seafront, sending displays up over the sea close to Bournemouth Pier as dusk settles on the bay.

The format is simple and has barely changed in years, because it does not need to: arrive early, find a spot on the sand or the promenade, and watch the sky go up in colour while the tide comes in. The displays are free to watch and draw big crowds on warm evenings, so the earlier you stake out a place, the better the view.

Where to watch

The classic spot is the beach either side of the pier, but locals know the quieter angles. The clifftops above the seafront give you the whole display with the town lit up below, and the sand towards Durley Chine trades a little closeness for a lot more elbow room.

Plenty of people build an evening around it: dinner at a seafront restaurant, ice cream on the promenade, then the show. On busy Fridays the closest tables go early, so booking ahead is wise.

Displays run on Friday evenings through the summer holiday weeks and start after dusk. Timings shift with the sunset, so check the event listing before you head down. Buses along the seafront are the easy way in, and if you drive, treat the seafront car parks the way you would on any warm evening: arrive early or park further out and walk.
