The Bournemouth Guide

Bournemouth in Summer

Peak beach season, the Air Festival and seafront fireworks.

Summer is when Bournemouth truly shines. Seven miles of golden sand, one of the sunniest microclimates in Britain and a packed events calendar make it the classic British seaside holiday at its very best.

Peak beach season

From June to August the beaches are the heart of the action. The sea warms enough for a proper swim, deckchairs and beach huts line the promenade, and lifeguards patrol the busiest stretches. Arrive early on hot days to claim your spot, especially around the pier. See our guide to the beaches to pick the right one.

The Bournemouth Air Festival

The town’s headline event, the Air Festival, fills the skies over Poole Bay with dramatic displays for several days at the end of August a free spectacle that draws huge crowds to the seafront.

Fireworks and evenings out

Summer evenings bring regular seafront fireworks, live music and a buzzing café and bar scene. The land train runs the length of the promenade, and the gardens host bandstand concerts.

Plan ahead

Summer is the busiest and priciest season, so book early. Check what’s on for the full calendar of festivals and events, browse things to do for ideas, and secure your stay through our accommodation listings before the best places sell out.
