The Lower Gardens are the green heart of Bournemouth, a ribbon of landscaped Victorian parkland that runs from the top of the town straight down to the seafront. Laid out in the 19th century along the Bourne stream, they’re the natural route between the shops and the pier, and one of the loveliest free things to do in the resort.
What to see and do
Beautifully kept flowerbeds, mature pines along the famous Pine Walk, and a small aviary give the gardens their character. Families gravitate to the crazy golf, while the ornate bandstand hosts free concerts through the summer. In the darker months, the gardens are strung with a seasonal light trail.
Visiting
The gardens are flat, step-free and open all year, with cafés and toilets along the way an easy, pram-friendly stroll whatever your pace. They connect the town centre to the seafront in about ten gentle minutes.
Nearby
At the seaward end you reach Bournemouth Pier and the beach, with the Oceanarium right beside the pier approach.
