Each August the skies above Bournemouth Beach fill with fast jets, historic aircraft and aerobatic teams for one of the largest free air shows on the south coast. Set over four days, the festival draws hundreds of thousands of visitors to the clifftops and sand to look up at Poole Bay.
What to expect
Daytime programmes bring a mix of military and civilian flying, from vintage warbirds to modern display teams tracing smoke trails across the water. Between slots there is plenty to do on the ground, with a seafront village of food stalls, live music stages and family activities stretching along the promenade.
Night air and after dark
The festival is known for its after-dark spectacles, when specially lit aircraft perform pyrotechnic routines over the bay before the evening rounds off with fireworks. Arrive in good light to claim a spot, then stay on for the atmosphere.
Planning your visit
Come early, as the town centre and clifftops get busy across the weekend. Pair a display afternoon with a stroll out along Bournemouth Pier or a wander through the Lower Gardens. Bring water, sun cover and a picnic blanket, and check the daily flying schedule before you set off.
