    How to search this guide

    Five things worth knowing

The search covers everything in the guide at once, and it reads more than the names: the facilities, the cuisine, the street and the neighbourhood of every place are all in the index. That means you can search for the thing you want rather than the thing it is called.

    1. 01 One word is usually enough Search "thai" rather than "thai restaurants in bournemouth". Extra words narrow the result, they never widen it.
    2. 02 Two words narrow it Every word has to appear somewhere, so "thai boscombe" gives you Thai food in Boscombe, not everything Thai and everything in Boscombe.
    3. 03 Search what you want, not what it is called "dog friendly", "step free", "sea view" and "vegan" all work, because the facilities of every place are in the index.
    4. 04 Streets and postcodes work too Type "charminster road" or "BH2" if you know roughly where you want to be.
    5. 05 Nearly right is fine A letter out of place still finds the place. "oceanaruim" and "boscomb" both work.
    Common questions

    Searching the guide, answered

What can I search for on The Bournemouth Guide?

Everything in the guide is in one index: beaches, attractions and days out, all 477 restaurants, cafés, pubs and bars, hotels and places to stay, the events calendar, every neighbourhood and nearby town, our written guides and itineraries, the news, and the practical visitor information pages.

Can I search by what a place offers rather than its name?

Yes. Facilities are indexed alongside names, so "dog friendly", "outdoor seating", "step free access", "vegan", "gluten free", "sea view" and "family" all return real results. So do cuisines: "italian", "indian", "thai", "seafood", "brunch".

Why can I not find something I know is in Bournemouth?

The guide is written by hand, so it is thorough rather than exhaustive: a very new or very small place may not be in it yet. If you run it, you can add it free from the "list your business" page. If you are just looking for it, tell us what you searched for at the bottom of an empty result and we will look into covering it.

Does it matter if I spell something wrong?

No. The search allows for a letter or two out of place, so "restarant", "boscomb" and "oceanaruim" all find what you meant. It also matches partial words, so "beach" finds "beaches" and "beachfront".

How do I narrow a long list of results?

Use the filter chips above the results to keep only one kind of thing: places to visit, food and drink, places to stay, events, guides, areas or practical information. The count on each chip tells you how many results are in it before you press it.

Is the search up to date?

Yes. The index is rebuilt from the live guide every few minutes, so a place, event or article added or corrected today is searchable today, without waiting for the site to be rebuilt.
