Just east of the town centre, Boscombe is Bournemouth’s most characterful quarter a place of surf culture, murals and independent spirit that has reinvented itself as the coast’s creative hub.
Boscombe Beach and the pier
At the heart of it is Boscombe Pier, a slender, art-deco-influenced structure reaching out over Boscombe Beach. The seafront here has a laid-back, bohemian feel, with beach huts, an overlooking sun terrace and a reputation as one of the south coast’s surf spots.
Eat, drink and browse
Overlooking the pier, Urban Reef serves everything from weekend brunch to sundowners with the tide rolling in below. Up in the village, Boscombe’s high street and the restored Royal Arcade are dotted with independent cafés, vintage shops and street art that repays a slow wander.
A creative, changing neighbourhood
Boscombe has long attracted artists, makers and musicians, and that energy shows in its festivals, pop-ups and community projects. It feels distinct from the polished seafront around the main pier grittier, friendlier and full of personality.

Boscombe sits between central Bournemouth and the clifftop village of Southbourne. For more of the coastline, see our guide to Bournemouth’s beaches, or find somewhere to stay in our accommodation listings.
