Aruba is one of the most recognisable spots on Bournemouth’s seafront — a large restaurant and bar set right at Pier Approach, where the promenade meets the entrance to Bournemouth Pier. By day it’s a relaxed place to eat with the sea filling the windows; by night it shifts gear into one of the town’s best-known party venues, complete with resident DJs and a cocktail list to match.
The food
The kitchen leans international, with a menu built for crowd-pleasing rather than fine dining. Fresh seafood is a strength — think mussels, calamari and paella — alongside burgers, chicken wings and hand-stretched pizzas made in-house. Mornings bring breakfast and a bottomless brunch, Sundays add a roast, and there’s a run of desserts to finish. The range is deliberately broad, so mixed groups with different tastes tend to find something they fancy. Menus change with the seasons, so it’s worth checking the restaurant’s current menu before you visit.
Atmosphere
Drinks are as much a part of Aruba as the food. The bar is known for an extensive cocktail list and one of the largest rum selections in the country outside London — a nod to the tropical, island theme the name suggests — with international beers, wines and champagne alongside. The mood tracks the time of day: easy-going and family-friendly over lunch, then buzzier as the evening draws in. On Friday and Saturday nights resident DJs take over and the space becomes a club, with VIP booths and themed events through the year. Cosmopolitan magazine once named it among the best places to party in Bournemouth.
Where it is
Location is the headline here. Aruba sits at Pier Approach, BH2 5AA — arguably the most central point on the whole seafront, right where the pier, the beach and the town-centre gardens all meet. Large windows and its prime position deliver sweeping views across the bay, from the pier out towards the coast. It’s an easy walk from the town centre and the Lower Gardens, and it slots neatly into a day on the beach or a stroll along the prom.
Good to know
For daytime meals you can usually just turn up, but tables with the best views — and weekend evenings, bottomless brunch and big-group bookings — are worth reserving ahead through the venue’s website. Opening hours stretch late into the night at weekends and are shorter earlier in the week, so check current times before setting out. There’s no dedicated car park, but several seafront and town-centre car parks sit within a short walk, and arriving on foot is often simplest in summer.
Aruba works equally well as a lunch with a view, a long lazy brunch or a night out — a genuinely flexible fixture on the front. For more places to eat and drink nearby, browse our food & drink guide, and pair a visit with the rest of Bournemouth’s seafront in our things to do guide.
