Barbara's Bier Haus is Bournemouth's take on the Alpine, après-ski-style bar, a Bavarian beer hall theme dropped onto Old Christchurch Road in East Cliff, a short walk from the town centre. It's part of a small UK chain of similarly themed bars, and the Bournemouth branch keeps the same formula: steins, beer towers, DJs and a party-first atmosphere.
Food and drink
The food leans into the theme, with 2ft-long sharing pizzas, hotdogs, bratwurst and other Bavarian bites built for groups rather than a quiet meal. On the drinks side there's beer served by the stein and tower, plus cocktails, cocktail towers and shot skis. A daily happy hour runs from 4pm to 8pm with 50% off selected drinks, and there's a running 2-4-1 pizza offer on Mondays. As ever, check current prices and menus on the venue's website before visiting.
Entertainment and nights out
This is very much an entertainment-led bar. Expect live music, karaoke, music bingo, quiz nights and DJ sets across the week, plus themed party nights that lean into the après-ski branding. It's a regular pick for hen parties, stag dos and birthday celebrations, with group packages and private hire on offer, so it suits a loud night out more than a low-key drink.
Good to know
Barbara's Bier Haus is open Sunday to Friday from 4pm to 3am, and from midday to 3am on Saturdays, though hours can vary around events. It's about a 10-12 minute walk from Bournemouth station, with several public car parks nearby if you're driving.
