"Meet me where the sun touches the sea" is a large, colourful mural painted across the shed that houses Bournemouth's tourist road train, on Undercliff Drive on the East Cliff seafront. It's an easy piece to stumble across while walking the promenade between the pier and the cliff lift, a splash of hand-painted colour against the everyday backdrop of deckchairs, beach huts and sea air.
The artist
The mural is the work of Ricky Also, a street artist based on England's South Coast who paints under the name Paintshop. He's a familiar name locally, as well as murals like this one, he curates Bournemouth's Upside outdoor gallery, a rotating collection of large-scale murals, and has painted seaside-themed work as far along the coast as Worthing.
Visiting
There's no admission and no set hours, it's an outdoor wall you can walk past any time, best appreciated on a stroll along the seafront rather than as a standalone destination. It sits well alongside Bournemouth's other public art and murals, part of a scene that's grown steadily around the town's Arts by the Sea festival and independent gallery projects.
