Nursery Garden is a small community garden tucked into the Boscombe/Springbourne area of Bournemouth. Unlike the manicured seafront Boscombe Chine Gardens nearby, this isn't a park built for casual strolling, it's a working plot run by the local charity Grounded Community, part of a wider network of growing spaces the charity uses to grow food and build community connections across the area.
What happens here
The garden holds a polytunnel, added by volunteers in 2022, where plug plants are propagated before being moved out to Grounded Community's other sites, including the Churchill Gardens Growzone, or into local back gardens tended by the charity's "Grounded Growers." Two bee hives are kept here for educational bee experiences with local children, alongside a small microgreens project and compost storage fed by a rocket composter. Shaded by a mature sycamore tree, the plot isn't well suited to outdoor annual vegetables, so volunteers have experimented with growing mushrooms instead.
Visiting
Nursery Garden is free, with permissive rather than open public access, it's best thought of as a working part of Grounded Community's growing network rather than a stand-alone visitor attraction.
