Friday Night Fireworks & Free Live Music at Key West

Key West is the bar and restaurant out over the water on Bournemouth Pier, and on selected summer Fridays it pairs the seafront's free 10pm fireworks with free live music through the evening. The pier location means the display goes up practically overhead, with sea views on every side, billed as the most unique free vantage point on the coast, now in its third year.

Four fireworks Fridays carry live music in 2026: 31 July, 14 August, 21 August and 28 August. The council's fireworks themselves run every Friday from 24 July to 28 August, so on the other dates Key West is still a prime viewing spot, just without the band.

Nothing to attend: the live music is free and the fireworks are free. You pay only for what you eat and drink. On Fridays Key West also runs half-price fish and chips all day, which has turned the pre-fireworks dinner there into a bit of a local institution.

For fireworks nights, yes, tables over the water are the best seats on the seafront and they go early, especially for the 28 August finale. Booking is through Key West's own website. Walk-ups can still find standing space, but a reserved table takes the luck out of it.

The displays are scheduled for 10pm, fired over the water just east of the pier by the BCP Council events team. Key West's evening builds towards them, so arriving for dinner from 7.30pm makes the full night of it.

The fireworks are run by the council, not the pier, and are weather-dependent, high winds can postpone a display at short notice. Key West's music and kitchen carry on regardless, so the evening survives a cancelled display better here than anywhere else on the front.

Out on Bournemouth Pier itself, past the entrance boardwalk, the building over the water at the pier's end. It's a ten-minute downhill walk from the town centre through the Lower Gardens, with the beach on either side of the approach.

Early evening, very, families eating fish and chips over the water are half the Friday crowd. As the night builds towards the 10pm display it skews more adult, so families with young children often eat early, walk the pier, and watch from the approach or east beach at showtime.
