New Names on the Menu: the Openings Reshaping Bournemouth’s Eating-Out Scene

From a seafood-and-steak newcomer on Bourne Avenue to a Brazilian-Pan-Asian kitchen on Commercial Road, a wave of new operators is betting on Bournemouth’s appetite.

Shopping streets in Westbourne, Bournemouth
Westbourne and the town centre are both gaining new independents.

Anyone who reads Bournemouth's food scene through its openings has had a busy year. A run of new independents has taken on sites across the town centre and the villages, and the pattern says something cheerful about local confidence.

The newest arrival with the biggest early buzz is Sea & Soul on Bourne Avenue, a seafood-and-steak restaurant that opened in January and has been collecting strong early reviews. Company filings show the business was incorporated only last autumn, making its opening a genuinely fresh bet on the town centre.

Changing hands, changing flavours

The pattern repeats across town. On Commercial Road, Bambuu has brought a Brazilian and Pan-Asian menu, complete with a Saturday bottomless brunch, to the site that previously traded as Ojo Rojo. In Westbourne, Harveys has taken over the former Eighty-Three cafe site on Poole Road with a British-French bistro pitch. And on Lansdowne Road, Mimosa Bar has turned a long-quiet address into an events-led brunch venue.

Each opening recycles a site that had gone quiet, which is the healthiest version of high-street change: spaces staying in food and drink use, with new operators rather than empty windows.

Where to start

Early-days restaurants reward early visits, before the booking pages fill. Sea & Soul and Bambuu both have pages in our directory, and the full picture of the town's kitchens, old and new, lives in the food and drink guide.
